During the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, all women’s competitions<\/strong> in alpine skiing took place in the Axamer Lizum, as well as the men’s giant slalom and slalom.<\/p>\n

Worth a visit in summer as well as in winter. Some unforgettable hikes start here, in winter a must for all ski fans!<\/p>\n

Life and facts<\/h2>\n

Sonja was born in Oslo on July 4, 1937, the daughter of the entrepreneur Karl August Haraldsen and his wife Dagny Ulrichsen, and grew up in the noble district of Vinderen, on the northern edge of the Norwegian capital.<\/p>\n

\n

In 1954 she finished school with a middle school diploma and began training as a dressmaker. In Lausanne, Switzerland, she earned a degree in accounting, social sciences and fashion design.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

She then studied French<\/strong>, English<\/strong> and art history<\/strong> in Oslo.
In 1959 she met her future husband, the then Norwegian Crown Prince Harald.<\/p>\n

Since Sonja was of middle-class origin and the fledgling Norwegian monarchy saw her future in jeopardy, it took nine years<\/strong> to get the approval of King Olav V., Harald’s father.<\/p>\n

\n

This is the first marriage in the European high nobility where a direct heir to the throne marries a woman of middle-class origin.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The couple married in Oslo Cathedral on August 29, 1968. Together they have two children: Princess M\u00e4rtha Louise and Crown Prince Haakon.<\/p>\n

The queen is now a grandmother of five.<\/p>\n

After the death of her father-in-law, who had been widowed for decades, on January 17, 1991, Sonja became the first Norwegian queen in 53 years<\/strong>. She assists her husband, King Harald V, in fulfilling his representative duties.<\/p>\n
