Visit the <strong>silver mine<\/strong> there.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>In the Middle Ages, Schwaz was the mining center of Europe. About 85% of the world&#8217;s silver came from Schwaz, making the city the largest mining metropolis in the world during its heyday around 1500, and Tyrol became one of the richest countries in Europe.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The great trading families became so influential that they used Schwaz silver to dictate the <strong>politics of Europe<\/strong> and the <strong>discoveries of the New World<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>first thaler<\/strong> in the world, the Guldiner, was newly minted with Schwaz silver in neighbouring <strong>Hall in Tyrol in 1486<\/strong>. In 1788 he moved to Strasbourg, France to study <strong>political science<\/strong> at the university.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>There he experienced the French Revolution and its uprisings.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He fled with his family to Vienna in 1794, when <strong>revolutionary troops<\/strong> advanced to the Rhine.
