He had six siblings, but only two of them reached adulthood. His father was the prince-bishop’s chamber musician Leopold Mozart<\/strong>, who had moved to Salzburg from Augsburg to study, and his mother was Anna Maria Pertl<\/strong>, who grew up in Sankt Gilgen on Lake Wolfgang.<\/p>\n He was taught to play the piano and to compose<\/strong> by his fatherat the age of 4<\/strong>.<\/p>\n As early as 1762 he had his first performances on the piano and violin and was considered a child prodigy<\/strong>. In 1772, at the age of only 16, he became concertmaster in Salzburg.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n From 1777 he made a long city trip with his mother and tried to find a new and better job. But he got neither employment nor musical commissions<\/strong> and so he became a freelance composer in Vienna<\/strong> from 1781 to 1791.<\/p>\n During this time, he created the great operas and piano concertos.
